A. Answer these following questions.

1. What is computer?

Ans. Computer is an electronic device that takes an input and after process gives us meaningful result or output. It takes input in the form of raw data and converts it into information.

2. Write the name of all components of computer system.

Ans. A computer system is made up of two components.

i. Hardware:- The collection of physical parts of a computer is called hardware.

ii. Software:- Software is a set of programs which governs smooth operation of the computer system.

3. Write the difference between Hardware & Software.

Ans. Difference between Hardware & Software.

The physical components of computer system which we can touch and feel are called hardware.

But, software is a set of programs which governs smooth operation of the computer system.

4. What are Instructions?

Ans. Instructions are the commands give to the computer in a language it can understand.

5. What is program?

Ans. A set of instructions that tells the computer what to do.

6. How many types of Hardware?

Ans. Computer Hardware is broadly classified into following types.

i. Input Device:- Keyboard, Mouse, Joy stick, MIC.

ii. Processing Device:- CPU

iii. Storage Device:- Hard Disk

iv. Output Device:- Monitor

v. Communication Device:- NIC, Modem

7. How many types of Software?

Ans. There are different types of Software.

i. System Software

ii. Application Software

8. What is operation system?

Ans. Operating system is a software. It acts as an interface between the user and the hardware.

9. What do you mean by Booting?

Ans. Booting is the process that starts the operating system when we turn on our computer.

10. Write the functions of operating system.

Ans. The main functions of operating system.

i. Memory Management

ii. File Management

iii. Application Management

iv. Hardware Management

11. What is GUI?

Ans. GUI is a Graphical User Interface. It allows the user to interact with electronic devices through Graphical Icons, menus etc.

12. How many types of Operating System?

Ans. There are two types of Operating System.

i. Single User Operating System:- It allows only a single user to work on a computer system effectively. Ex. MAC-OS, Win xp, 7, 8.1, 10.

ii. Multi User Operating System:- It allows two or more users to work on a single computer at same time or different time. Ex. Unix, Linux.

13. What is Utility Software? Explain with example.

Ans. Utility Software are the programs that ensure the smooth functioning of the computer system. It keeps our system efficient and trouble free. Ex. Backup Utility, Disk Clean Up, Disk Defragmentation.

14. How to keep our system virus free?

Ans. Through Anti-Virus

15. What is Application Software?

Ans. Application Software are a set of programs designed to solve a specific problem or do a specific task. Ex. Open Office Writer, Railway Booking System.

16. How many types of Application Software?

Ans. There are three types of Application Software.

i. General Purpose

ii. Specific Purpose

iii. Custom

17. Define:-

i. Software Licence:- Software Licence is the conditions on the use and distribution of the software. It used on only one computer.

ii. Open Source Software:- Open Source Software can be distributed freely and used by everyone free of Cost. Ex. Mozila Firefox, Open Source Software.

iii. System Software:- It controls all the Hardware at this Machine.

Ex. Operating system Utility Software

B. Fill in the blanks.

i. Open Source software is FREEWARE software.

ii. PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE doesn’t allow people to look at its code.

iii. Computer Instructions written in a PROGRAMMING language.

iv. Software Licensing that defines CONDITIONS on the use of Software.

v. Software has to be CUSTOMIZED as per their needs or requirements.

vi. ANTI-VIRUS helps us to detect, remove virus from our computer system.

vii. RAM and ROM are the example of Primary Memory.

viii. SOFTWARE ENGINEER is responsible for developing the software.

ix. HARD DISK is a magnetic disk on which we can store computer data.

x. VERSION is called technology Up gradation or change.
