E. Answer the following Questions
1. Describe the formation of solar system.
Answer - some scientists had the opinion that our solar system was born from the giant cloud of gas and dust known as nebula. it cooled and gained very fast rotation. Eight gas balls of various sizes were separated from it and formed the eight planets. Remaining nebula had formed the Sun. The satellites were also created when tiny gas spheres broke off from their parent mass and attracted by their companion planet.
2. State three features which make the earth a unique planet.
Answer - The three features that
make the earth a unique planet is as follows:
1. Water covers two-thirds of the
earth's surface, which is the primary factor in the origin of life.
2. Earth's temperature, which
is neither too hot nor too cold, is ideal for the evolution of life.
3. The earth is surrounded by the airy envelope which contains dust, water vapours and gases necessary for life on the planet.
3. Mention three main characteristics of a satellite.
Answer - Three
characteristics of a satellite is as follows:
1. All satellite revolves around their respective planet.
2. Satellites take their heat and light from the Sun because they do not have their own light
3. All satellites are celestial or
heavenly bodies.
4. Give a brief description on the Phases of Moon with the help of a diagram.
Answer - The different shapes of the Moon appears from the Earth over the course of about a month are known as its phases.

The visible portion of the moon goes on increasing after new moon (Amavasya). At first it appears as a crescent, gradually changing to a half-moon on the eighth day, and finally becoming a full moon known as full moon day (Purnima) on the fifteenth day. After this day decline of the moon's illuminated part starts and finally it disappears and again comes to the position of New moon (Amavasya)
5. Write a short note on the other celestial bodies (asteroids, meteoroids and comets) in the solar system.
Answer-
Asteroids- Asteroids are rocky space object that orbit our Sun. These can range in size from a few feet to hundreds of kilometers. Space between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter is known as Asteroid Belt.
Meteoroid: In space, meteoroids are small pieces of rock and debris. They become meteors or shooting stars when they enter the Earth's atmosphere at high speed, leaving a bright trail as they are heated due to friction of atmosphere.
Comets - Comets are small bodies composed of frozen gases and dust particles. It has a long bright tail and a head. They appear in the sky after a long period. Hailey's comet appears after every 76 year interval in the sky.
